Women are not allowed to enter parks, gyms and gardens. This is the decision taken by the Taliban regime in Afghanistan which imposes new bans on the daily life of women in the country. The confirmation comes from the spokesman for the Ministry for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice, Mohammad Akif Sadeq Mohajir, who explained in a note that the tightening was necessary after previous rules continued to be broken.

Until now, access to public places such as parks and gyms was regulated by precise days and times, different from those of men, so that they could never meet: specifically, according to Taliban rules on gender segregation, women they could visit the parks three days a week – Sunday, Monday, Tuesday – and the men the remaining four.

“In many places the rules were broken – explained Mohammad Akif Sadeq Mohajir – there was a mixed presence between women and men and the hijab was not worn. It is for this reason that we have taken this decision”. Now women will not be admitted even if accompanied by men. At the moment, the ban has only been imposed in the capital Kabul, but it is not excluded that it can also be extended to other cities, as has been done in the past with other interventions of this type.

In fact, it is the umpteenth rule introduced by the Taliban regime, which came to power in August 2021, that limits women’s freedom. In addition to the ban on studying, working in the public sector, leaving the city alone or without being accompanied by a male figure, and the mandatory use of a full veil.
