Belgian police have arrested a man in connection with a failed attempted theft against coach Mark van Bommel. The suspect is a man from the town of Kapellen, north of Antwerp.
“Thanks to recent footage and a tracker we found under the victim’s car, we finally found the 25-year-old suspect,” a spokesperson for the Antwerp prosecutor’s office told VRT Nieuws. The suspect denies any involvement.
Van Bommel is the manager of Royal Antwerpen FC football club. When he got home on Monday evening, October 24th, someone was waiting for him in the parking lot below his house in Antwerp.
As Van Bommel was driving into the parking lot, he could see the robber approaching with a gun and a flashlight. He quickly turned around and collided with another car that sounded the alarm. The robber then fled.
