Democratic candidate Katie Hobbs won the Arizona gubernatorial election. Hobbs defeats Republican rival and Trump ally Kari Lake.
The loss of Lake, a former TV presenter and rising star of the Make America Great Again movement, was another blow to Donald Trump, who could announce his candidacy for the 2024 presidential election today. Lake said it was Trump who won the 2020 presidential election, not Biden, a claim that was never proven.
Leading members of the Republican Party also urged voters in Arizona not to vote for Lake. Liz Cheney, a prominent Trump critic and daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, did, among others.
He was criticized by Lake, who sarcastically thanked Cheney in a letter for a television ad urging voters to ignore Lake. According to Lake, doing so would only result in more donations for his campaign.
Cheney now has the final word on Twitter. “You’re welcome Kari Lake”, to say With Lake’s “thank you” notes attached.

Lake’s defeat came after the loss of two other high-profile election deniers in the state: Senate candidates Blake Masters and Mark Finchem. Minister of Foreign Affairs, the highest official in a state.

The fight for control in the House of Representatives, the lower house of the US Congress, has yet to be officially decided. Republicans need at least 218 out of 435 seats demand a majority. The party needs one more seat.
