An English driver was arrested for driving drunk and without insurance, causing a car accident in which a 25-year-old girl died.

Matthew Plimmer was driving on the wrong side of the road when he collided with Jessica Drury’s car on Jan. 19. Police investigating the dramatic incident later discovered that the man in 2006 he had previously been jailed for three years for a similar crime: he was behind the wheel when it crashed, killing the teenager traveling beside him.

The tragedy that occurred 16 years ago obviously hasn’t helped him to be more cautious. After serving his three-year prison sentence, Plimmer was able to get behind the wheel of his car and caused another accident, also this time cost a person’s life. For this, he was sentenced to an additional nine years in prison.

The man also allegedly tried to divert the investigation. Indeed, as the BBC reveals, Plimmer “immediately tried to mislead investigators about what happened in a desperate attempt to cover up his responsibilities”. In fact, the 35-year-old man claimed another man was driving and fled, but DNA evidence showed he was behind the wheel.

Cornered, Plimmer ended up pleading guilty. The man admitted to driving his car after drinking too much alcohol causing the death of a young girl. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the 35-year-old was also uninsured.
