Donald Trump officials presented the documents for a 2024 presidential nomination on Tuesday as his supporters gathered at his Florida resort to make the announcement.
Bradley Crate, who has worked for Trump’s political organizations, filed papers with the US Federal Election Commission to create a commission called “Donald J. Trump for President 2024.”
Trump’s much-anticipated announcement at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Palm Beach, Florida, comes after a disappointing result for the GOP in last week’s midterm elections, which many blamed the real estate seller, the report told Reuters.
The unusually early start could well be aimed at fending off potential contenders for the party’s 2024 nomination, including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, 44, and Trump’s former vice president Mike Pence, 63.
Republicans are approaching the 218 seats they need to secure a majority in the 435-seat House of Representatives.
