The United Nations is asking Iran to release those arrested during peaceful protests

Agency spokesman Jeremy Laurence reminded Iranian authorities at a press conference that “human rights protect people’s right to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression.”

In addition, the United Nations has called for a stay of the death sentence in the country after an Islamic court sentenced a protester to death for “waging war against God” and “corruption on earth”.

Protesters defy renewed pressure in Iran

The death toll since the start of the protests in Iran is 326, including 43 children.

The United Nations request came a week before the start of the special session of the UN Human Rights Council, which was held in Geneva yesterday, Nov. 24, to discuss deteriorating human rights in Iran.
