Illness in flight, 50-year-old man dies on EasyJet flight to London

Fatal illness onboard an EasyJet low-cost airline flight. A man died while traveling to London on a plane that took off from Cyprus. The flight was bound for Gatwick Airport from Cyprus this afternoon when a man in his 50s fell ill. Attempts to revive the passenger using a defibrillator were unsuccessful.

Flight EZY8454 was full of tourists, taking them home. It left the Greek island at 2:20 pm local time, but a passenger fell ill at around 3:40 pm. Eyewitnesses say the man appeared to be traveling alone and could not be awakened. Passengers were held up on landing at Gatwick for paramedics to board and declare the man dead.

A junior flight attendant led the emergency response, while another passenger said, “The crew handled the situation with extraordinary composure and professionalism.”

Cabin crew asked if anyone on the flight was a doctor or paramedic. As the plane flew over Paris, France, the captain of the flight confirmed that there had been a “medical incident” and urged everyone to treat the deceased with dignity.
