A new £50 million aid package for the Ukrainian armed forces. This is the announcement made by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on the occasion of his first meeting in Kiev with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The package will strengthen Ukraine’s air defense and includes 125 anti-aircraft guns and other technological means to counter attacks by Russian drones, supplied by Iran. The new aid follows more than 1,000 new anti-aircraft missiles announced earlier this month by British Defense Secretary Ben Wallace. “While the Ukrainian military manages to push Russian forces back to the ground, civilians are being brutally bombed from the air,” said Sunak, “Today we are providing new air defenses, including anti-aircraft weapons, radar and anti-drone equipment, and we are stepping up humanitarian support for the cold, harsh winter ahead.” President Zelensky thanked the British Prime Minister on Twitter: “Thank you @RishiSunak. With friends like you by our side, we are confident of our victory. Both of our nations know what it means to stand up for freedom.”
