Emergency migrants, dead and missing in Algerian waters

Yet another disaster in the waters of the Mediterranean. These dead and missing faces were identified in Algerian waters. Six men and one woman were recovered aboard the merchant ship “Christina B”, while 4 bodies were found lifeless at sea and 2 remain missing. It is the balance of a rescue operation that took place in the area of ​​responsibility of the Algerian SAR, where a small vessel in difficulty due to adverse weather conditions was identified.

The Algerian authorities, who took over the coordination of the SAR event, sent a merchant vessel to help the unit in difficulty, but the migrants, as soon as they saw the merchant vessel, jumped into the water. The Algerian authorities, given the extent of sea in which the event took place – 15 miles from the Italian SAR area and 107 miles from the Algerian coast – requested the collaboration of the Italian Coast Guard: the Center of Operations of the Coast Guard in Rome is therefore intervened coordinating the on-site intervention of naval and air vehicles to rescue the migrants. At this time, of the 13 occupants of the small vessel, 7 (6 men and one woman) were recovered on board the merchant ship “Christina B”, 4 bodies identified lifeless at sea and 2 people still missing. The searches, complicated by bad weather and sea conditions, will continue over the next few hours with patrol boats, helicopters and Coast Guard aircraft, an Air Force helicopter and Algerian aircraft.
