The frozen bodies of two newborns they were found inside a freezer in a woman’s house, in southeastern France: this is what judicial sources report to the Agence France Presse. “These are facts of a criminal nature”, declared the prosecutor of Carpentras, Hélène Mourges, specifying that the discovery was made after a complaint to the gendarmerie.
The woman stopped at the scene, a 41-year-old mother of a family, residing in the small town of Bedouin, in the department of Vaucluse, was arrested. At this point in the investigation, sources said, it is impossible to identify the age or sex of the babies found frozen, as well as any links between them or with the stopped woman. “Surveys were carried out” to shed more light on the two dead children, said the prosecutor, adding that “the autopsy will allow us to know more”.
Pending the availability of the autopsy results, the 41-year-old man was entered in the register of suspects with the hypothesis of a crime of murder of a child under 15. IThe woman, according to information obtained by France 3, is the mother of three daughters, the oldest of which is 19 years old. Her lawyer, quoted by Dauphiné Libéré, said that the discovery of the three bodies took place in a “special” context, and that in the past the woman would have given birth alone at home.
The prosecutor ordered a series of psychological and psychiatric reports on the suspect and announced that it was a man who had raised the alarm to the gendarmerie of the municipality of Mormoiron, although one of the woman’s daughters, a 16-year-old girl, had made the discovery of the three bodies.
