Two girls were injured on Monday morning when they were attacked on their way to school in southwest Germany, a police spokesman said, confirming a report in German newspaper Bild. The spokesman said he could not provide further details about the attack, which took place in Illerkirchberg, a town of about 5,000 west of Munich. German newspaper Bild had previously reported that the assailant had brandished a knife. After arriving at the scene and tending to the two seriously injured girls, police found that a suspect had fled into a nearby building, Wolfgang Juergens, a police spokesman in the German city of Ulm, told the local broadcaster. People inside the building were detained, he said, without saying how many people had been found and whether any of them were suspects in the attack.
