Conflict in Ukraine
Several people died and others were injured i two different explosions occurred in two Russian military airfields this morning before dawn. At the moment it is not known with certainty what caused the explosions, but several media advance suspicion about Ukrainian drones even if the military areas are hundreds of kilometers from the Ukrainian border.
A first explosion engulfed everyonemilitary airport in Ryazan, about 200 kilometers southeast of Moscow, causing 3 deaths and 5 injuries, according to Russian news agency Tass. Of the five injured hospitalized in the region, two are serious, according to the emergency services cited by the agency.
The second explosion involved the Russian Air Base Engels-1in the Saratov region, where damaging two Tu-95 bombers🇧🇷 This was reported by Ukrainska Pravda, adding that at least two soldiers were wounded and hospitalized.
Confirming casualties and injuries among personnel at the Ryazan military airport, Moscow authorities speak of a fuel tank that would have exploded during aircraft maintenance and refueling operations.
The regional governor of Saratov, where the headquarters of the air base is located Russian Tu-95 long-range strategic bombers who participated in attacks on power infrastructure in Ukraine, said security forces were checking what he called “reports of an incident at military installations”. The Kremlin only claimed that Vladimir Putin had been informed of the incidents.
Baza, a Russian media outlet with sources in the security services, reported that Engels airport in Russia was attacked by a drone that was targeting the air base’s runway. Astra, another independent Russian media outlet, said two nuclear-capable Tu-95 bombers were damaged in the explosion. None of them named a source for their information.
Ukraine is currently believed to lack drones powerful enough to attack hundreds of kilometers beyond the front lines, although there are reports of such devices in development.
