More than 150 injured in Barcelona train crash

“The affected trains were evacuated in less than half an hour and no one was trapped in the carriages”, explained the rescuers.

Two trains full of passengers collided out today barcelona, in Spain, causing more than 150 injured. The train crashed at around 7:50 am today, Wednesday, December 7th. It involved two local passenger trains bound for Barcelona which, suddenly and for reasons yet to be determined, found themselves one after the other on the same track.

The accident happened near the Montcada i Reixac-Manresa station, in Catalonia, where numerous emergency services immediately rushed. Renfe, the Spanish railway operator, activated the protocol established for this type of accident with the collaboration of the Civil Defense and the Spanish System of Medical Emergencies.

On site, in addition to firefighters, several emergency medical units to attend to the injured. THE firefighters had to unlock the doorsking of two trains to take passengers off the tracks before handing them over to the care of health professionals.

According to civil protection, however, no serious injuries were reported. Most were treated at the scene and only a few required transport to hospital, but with non-lethal injuries.

“The affected trains were evacuated in less than half an hour. and no one was trapped in the wagons”, explain the rescuers. In fact, the collision of the trains fortunately happened close to a station and therefore with trains running at low speed. Most of the injured suffered a fall from the impact.

“We were waiting for the train and we heard a bang, the stopped train moved two meters and stopped. Many people fell from the impact because the train was so full,” a witness explained to local newspapers.

In addition to firefighters, several emergency medical units are on site to tend to the injured. The firefighters had to unlock the doors of the two trains so that the passengers could get off the track before entrusting them to the care of the sanitary ware.

Renfe explained that The causes of the accident are under investigation.🇧🇷 The company communicated that, one and a half hours after the accident, circulation was re-established on the railway lines affected by the accident, through a single available track.
