Ukraine asked the US to send cluster bombs

The request to the US came from Kiev: to provide cluster bombs to Ukraine, which has been at war with Russia for months. They are banned weapons in over 100 countries, but Russia continues to use them. Until now, Washington has said it is ready to guarantee the long term military support for Ukraine, but never mentioned the use of cluster bombs. According to cnn this option is evaluated very carefully, as its use can increase the level of tension.

Prohibited ammunition transfers require Congressional approval. According to the American network, President Biden could also decide to speed up the procedures, but the times would still not be short.

This type of weapon launches bombs that later explode and therefore can seriously endanger anyone nearby. Fragmentation produces a devastating mini-bomb secondary effect.

So far Russians and Ukrainians have used these weapons, but according to a Human Rights Watch report Moscow used them to a greater extent and targeting civilians, parks, hospitals, and cultural centers.

And the war will still be long: Putin’s last message to the world is that “we are still at the beginning” and that for the success of the “special operation” Moscow is ready to “defend itself with all available means”, if there are no other possibilities.
