Two brothers from 18 and 17 years old yes I am commit suicide 13 weeks difference: In fact, Mikey took his own life some time after his brother PJ’s funeral. “I knew the day I buried PJ, I would also lose Mikey,” said his mother, Patrice. “They were born 13 months apart and were inseparable – she told the Mirror newspaper – when I saw his despair, I understood that nothing could be done for him. I will never forget your pain.”
PJ took his own life in Castlebellingham, County Louth, Ireland in 2021 on New Year’s Eve. “He was always cheerful and loved trying new things. He dropped out of school because he wanted to work and was good at what he did. The week before Christmas he went shopping with his brother on his first paycheck and looked to be in top physical and mental shape.
“We sat together at the table on Christmas Day and had a great time with the whole family. We never thought he could be sick. On the 31st everything seemed calm, then he was upset within an hour. He wanted to tell me something, but he didn’t survived. He only left to clear his head, I let him go because I thought he needed some time alone. I don’t know what happened, but we never saw him again.
The 17-year-old committed suicide that same night with a lethal mixture of drugs. The boy, rushed to the hospital, died shortly afterwards in the ward. “Mikey took his own life a few weeks after his brother did. He was 18, I couldn’t get him to a therapist after PJ died. So he didn’t ask for help and kept it to himself. I tried to be close to him, but I no, that was enough”.
“I’m still worried about my other three children. They agreed to seek help from a psychologist, but our home is not the same anymore. Everything is different now.”
