Moments of pure panic late Friday night at a luxury restaurant in Mayfair, London. The almost 300 diners, in fact, had to flee after a terrible fire started from a bright star lit in a cocktail glass.

As the firefighters announced, the sparks inadvertently set a Christmas tree on fire: the flames quickly spread to the furniture, tables and towels: “We believe that the illuminated serpentine in a chalice hell broke out”, explained the spokesman for the fire department, recalling that every year, during the Christmas holidays, there are countless requests for intervention for the fires that arise from the Christmas trees.

Some videos posted on Twitter show scenes of real panic. Terrified customers run through tunnels of flames running at breakneck speed to save themselves. Five fire engines and about 35 firefighters intervened at the scene and quickly extinguished the fire: two people were hospitalized and fortunately there were no serious injuries, just a big scare.

The balance could have been much more serious: in fact, around three hundred customers sat inside the restaurant and if the staff had not intervened very quickly, dozens of people would have been trapped. The London fire department took the opportunity to warn the population about the risks of leaving Christmas trees decorated, especially if they are plastic.
