“Never seen turbulence”: passengers passed out and thrown into the air, nightmare flight ends with 36 injured

Moments of terror those experienced by passengers on a Hawaiian Airlines flight with people thrown into the air against the roof of the plane, others passed out. More than twenty of them needed to be transported to the hospital and 11 were hospitalized.

“The aircraft encountered extreme turbulence🇧🇷 It was a very rare case of extreme turbulence in the air,” said Jon Snook, CEO and Executive Vice President of Hawaiian Airlines, adding, “We are happy that none of the passengers were seriously injured. It could have been a lot worse.”

The flight departed on Sunday morning from Phoenix airport in Arizona, USA, bound for Honolulu, capital of Hawaii

The flight took off without a hitch, and although it did experience a few storms, it arrived on time. Then sudden turbulence about 30 minutes before arrival time🇧🇷

The aircraft with on board 278 passengers and 10 crew suffered two “intense” drops in altitude that caused panic on board. Passengers and crew were suddenly thrown to the ground, eventually suffering head injuries and several cuts, while others lost consciousness after hitting their heads on the roof of the aircraft.

“Around me there were people bleeding others passed out and still others crying,” a witness told Hawaii News Now. Another passenger posted a photo of the damage to the plane explaining that the turbulence was so bad that her boyfriend’s metal water bottle broke through the ceiling above them.

Fortunately, the plane regularly landed at Honolulu Airport, where emergency medical services were waiting for passengers with several ambulances. Some of the injured were treated on the spot, but for more than twenty of them needed to be transported to the hospital and 11 were hospitalized🇧🇷 Three crew members were also among the injured.

According to the Honolulu meteorological authorities, an alert was issued for unstable weather conditions, but the movement of atmospheric currents was not predictable in detail. However, an investigation into the crash will be conducted by the US Federal Aviation Administration.
