Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky went to Bakhmut, a city in eastern Ukraine that in recent weeks has been at the center of fighting between Moscow and Kiev. The small town of Donbass was the subject of violent bombing which caused the destruction of many houses, infrastructure and roads. “The occupiers – underlined the Ukrainian president who presented himself in a surprising way – actually destroyed this city, turned it into ruins and ashes”.

Before the war, Bakhmut was about 70,000 inhabitants and today it is almost completely deserted: here the Russians concentrated enormous energies for at least two months in order to conquer it. Currently, however, the Ukrainian resistance continues to resist: despite the pressure exerted by Moscow with the Wagner group on the villages located nearby, the Kiev fighters never retreated. The constant Kremlin attacks, however, have caused several casualties to the Ukrainian ranks, putting the army in evident difficulty.

The Ukrainian president has therefore chosen to tackle one of his riskiest trips to find and reward soldiers. the visit had not been announced and was only confirmed by his spokesperson after it had already taken place. Zelensky chose to go to the hottest point of the front to show his support for the Armed Forces, which for weeks have been fighting with much more difficulty to prevent the conquest of the city.

Zelensky had already left Kiev for two extremely symbolic trips: the first to reach Kherson on the occasion of the Russian withdrawal across the Dnipro River in November and the second to sloviansk, in Donbass, about 40 kilometers from Bakhmut, today the main battleground in the region. “I am sure that we will meet again – he told the military on that occasion – in our Donetsk and Luhansk. I am also sure that we will be able to shake hands again even on the soil of our Crimea🇧🇷
