Ukraine, the analyst Cella: from Zelensky’s contempt to Putin. What do they think in Russia

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is in the United States to see Joe Biden, but the visit that embarrasses Russia is yesterday, at the hottest point of the war front. Zelensky met and rewarded the Ukrainian military in Bakhmut, in the eastern part of Ukraine hit daily by Russian bombing: “We will not give up our land”, he told the armed forces engaged in the conflict.

Giorgio Cella, analyst and university professor, speaking at Rainwes 24 underlined how Zelensky’s move, in addition to demonstrating a certain courage, is also a “farce for Putin”. “We are in a very disputed area, where the Russians have been trying for weeks to break through the Ukrainian lines but with very relative success”, explains the analyst. There is obvious symbolism, explains Cella, with regard to “the courage of the leader and his nation in war”, but also in underlining the enemy’s difficulties. Indeed, the visit of a head of state to the hottest front of the war must seem like an affront in Russia.

Also because, concludes Cella, “the Russians would never have thought that the special military operation, as they called it, would now last almost a year. And we are still here and the fact that Zelensky went to Bakhmut is significant” .
