War in Ukraine, Ambassador to Moscow Starace: Putin regime heading for big changes

Russia’s long war with Ukraine is undermining the consensus still enjoyed by the Kremlin regime. According to Italian diplomacy, Vladimir Putin is going through a very delicate moment and, soon, there could be big changes in the shadow of the Kremlin. «We will see important changes in the Russian regime – confirms Giorgio Starace, Italian ambassador in Moscow – The special military operation failed and gave rise to a conflict that is less and less understood and supported by the Russian population. And it is with the Russian people that Italy must dialogue». The Italian diplomat then spoke about the internal situation at the embassy in Moscow. “We are reduced in ranks, but we keep the Italian flag high in Russia, taking care of the problems of the great Italian community in the country every day.” According to the diplomat, Italy must maintain “the difficult dialogue with Moscow, firmly reaffirming our positions, aware that we can and must do everything to contribute to the end of hostilities in Ukraine and the return to the diplomatic phase”.

And it is precisely on this issue that Italy will have to know how to make a difference through our country’s “great diplomatic tradition” of “dialogue and overcoming conflicts”. This crisis phase, in fact, “has caused and is causing tectonic upheavals in Russia and the West”. Lastly, Starace exhorted Europe to “find a new synthesis of priorities for the coming decades, bearing in mind that Russia is and will continue to be an essential partner and it will be necessary to find a new cooperation and security arrangement on the European continent”.
