200 homes are still without water in west Wales as the freeze-thaw misery continues. A week of sub-zero temperatures caused many water pipes to freeze, and although measures were taken ahead of an expected “flash thaw” over the weekend, ground movement as the pipes thawed caused a large increase in explosions from the main pipelines.

A large area of Ceredigion has been affected by water shortages, as have parts of Pembrokeshire, with even some areas of Carmarthenshire reporting water shortages. Some neighbors say they have been without water since Saturday morning.

A collection point for bottled water has been set up in Llandisull and it took residents over an hour to access the car park where water was distributed this morning. Residents receive two packs of six-liter bottles each. On Monday, nine schools were closed due to the incident. Get stories like these straight to your inbox with our newsletters.

Neighbors, who spent days without running water, say they have no support

In an updated statement, Welsh Water said: “Significant progress has been made today in restoring the water supply and we now have up to 200 properties without water following the freeze and thaw, which is proving particularly challenging given the problems encountered in the network. of water. 🇧🇷 repressed.

“Other supply problems in this region will mainly be related to airlocks in the system, which we have warned customers about, which could lead to further temporary interruptions in supply. We have teams working 24/7 to find and fix these issues. For information, certain other areas of our business could be affected by a major non-freezing outage occurring in our water network, which under normal circumstances is nearly 30,000 km long. Again, we have teams ready to resolve both of these issues ASAP.

“We continue to have bottled water stations at various locations in the affected areas as a precaution. We will continue to work overnight to resolve any outstanding issues and will continue to use our fleet of water trucks to supply water directly to the system. Customers can also help by checking that all faucets not in use are turned off, and if there is a water supply, only use the water they need. Also, for agricultural users, check the outside piping for leaks. All this will help the system to fill up. We would like to once again apologize to our customers for any inconvenience caused and thank them for their patience.”
