Climate activists of the last generation headlined the Christmas tree in front of Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate on Wednesday in what they said they wanted to highlight the “disaster”. caused by climate change.
Two members of this movement used a crane mounted next to the tree to just cut the tip, an action to be carried out tomorrow morning, with which they wanted to make it clear that “in Germany we only see the tip of the catastrophe, that is below” , according to a statement from Last Generation.
“While all of Germany spends the week buying the best gifts in department stores, others are wondering where to get clean water after drought and floods destroyed their crops,” activists say.
You add that “Climate crisis is on Germany’s doorstep” and the government “shows no signs” to protect citizens.
According to activists, the two women who climbed into the crane cut two meters from the top of the tree, which stands in front of the Berlin memorial.
Local media reported that although police officers were on the scene, they did not understand the climate activists’ intent and believed the crane was being used for maintenance work on Christmas decorations.
However, the last generation shared photos taken during their action showing the activists being questioned by the police and one of them carrying the felled part of the tree in a police car and one of the women in the vehicle.
