Conflict in Ukraine
Ukraine and the United States are not seeking peace, but are ready to continue hostilities. These are the comments from Moscow, with Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, on talks between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his US counterpart Joe Biden. “The ‘negotiations’ in Washington have shown that neither Ukraine nor the United States is seeking peace according to Zakharova.
According to a spokeswoman for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the United States confirmed its “direct involvement” in the conflict in Ukraine hosting President Zelensky and defending Kiev’s right to carry out attacks in Crimea. It is “yet another confirmation of the direct participation of Americans in hostilities on the side of the Ukrainian armed forces”, added Zakharova, who stated then that “the Ukrainian army has become a mercenary army with foreign instructors” and “with mercenaries coming directly from countries of ‘ West”.
The Kremlin accuses Washington of waging an “indirect war” against Russia. For Moscow, there is no “willingness to listen to Russia.” The US-made Patriot missile systems to be sent to Ukraine will be legitimate targets for Russian forces, as will other types of weapons, as well as Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov, as reported by Tass.
In the US, Zelensky addressed the US Congress, received with a shower of applause. “We will never give up”, he said, and that too thanks to the “essential” support of the United States. “I want to thank the Americans” and tell them that the aid given to Kiev “is not charity but an investment in global security and democracy,” the Ukrainian leader said. “They can accelerate our victory”, he added, referring indirectly to the help that could come from America. “Russian tyranny has lost control over us. The struggle continues and we must defeat the Kremlin on the battlefield,” another passage from his speech.
During the Ukrainian president’s visit to the United States, “there were no real calls for peace,” said Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, reports RIA Novosti. The United States, according to Peskov, continues “the de facto and indirect line of war with Russia to the last Ukrainian.”
