“I took the $8,000 and came to Venezuela,” added Gabriel Carlos Luis Salinas Mendoza, a Venezuelan suspect, who Ceballos said was arrested Tuesday afternoon in Caracas for the murder of prosecutor Marcelo Pecci.
Colombian authorities announced the arrest on Wednesday.
Ceballos told the press there was “a request from Interpol, Blue Alert” requiring authorities to notify other countries of the person’s whereabouts.
“This person is also wanted by the Colombian prosecutor’s office” and “in the case of this Paraguayan prosecutor, we have been able to confirm that this person belongs to the international crime organization” killed his pregnant wife on May 10, 2022 on the island of Barú, near Cartagena.
Salinas is charged with using the jet ski used by the gunman who killed the 45-year-old prosecutor, who specializes in organized crime, drug trafficking, money laundering and terrorist financing.

Ceballos released a video alleging that the suspect, who is serving a prison sentence for kidnapping and murder in Venezuela, was involved in the crime.
“When I met Francisco Correa alias El Monín at a Motopiruetas event in Medellín, when he told me that a murderer should be executed, I asked him if there was money, he said yes, and after two he ordered me to accept it . we are looking for more people,” says Salinas in the video.
“In Cartagena, Monín gives us the gun with which we want to commit the murder,” he continues. “El Guacala gets out, executes the accuser, gets on the motorcycle and goes to the place (…) where they are waiting for us to go overland to Medellín.”
“I took $8,000 and came to Venezuela,” says the prisoner.
According to Colombian police, Ceballos pointed out that Salinas will be prosecuted in Venezuela because the law “prohibits widespread extradition of Venezuelans”.
The investigation into the murder of Pecci, the mastermind behind the crime, has yet to be found. The US offered a $5 million reward to those who provided information on those responsible.
