Clashes, barricades and roadblocks have been going on for weeks in northern Kosovo, a state not recognized by Serbia and other countries in the international community. The area where the demonstrations are taking place is very unstable because it is inhabited by an ethnic Serb population, although formally the territory is within Kosovo’s borders.
“In the last twenty-three years, that is, since the end of the war, this territory has gone through several crises, but never a situation as serious as the current one”, said Miodrag Milicevic of the Serbian NGO Aktiv, the only one to have an office in Belgrade and Pristina.
“On the contrasts between Serbia and Kosovo, we need to carefully assess the statements and the tense situation on the ground” warns Luca Gori, Italian ambassador to Serbia at the XV Conference of Ambassadors and Embassies with Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and part of the government in Farnesina.
