2 killed, 4 injured in gun attack in Paris

According to French prosecutors, two people were killed in a gunfight in Paris. In addition, four people were injured. According to the judiciary, a suspect was arrested and the danger barred.

The suspect is a 69-year-old man already known by French authorities when they attacked a refugee camp last year, according to local media outlet BFM TV. District Manager Alexandra Cordebard said the shooter’s motive would be investigated today.

The incident occurred on rue d’Enghien, near the Gare du Nord train station. According to Cordebard, shots were fired at the Kurdish cultural centre, restaurant and hairdresser. A shopkeeper in the area told AFP news agency that he heard between seven and eight gunshots.

Images circulating on social media show that rescuers have arrived en masse:

Paris Mayor Anne Hildago thanked the police for their “decisive response” on Twitter. She also says her thoughts are with the victims and their families, she says. Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said he would go to the scene of the attack.
