Russian tanks in Soledar, propaganda war with Kiev: “They don’t control the city” |  VIDEO

Russian state TV released a video that allegedly was filmed in the town of Soledar, in eastern Ukraine, the scene of intense fighting in recent days. In footage released from Moscow, troops from the Wagner Group, Russia’s private military contractor, are seen roaming the streets and entering buildings. The Associated Press was unable to confirm which location is seen in the video. Meanwhile, fierce fighting continues in the small Ukrainian town. Incoming footage shows surrounding tanks firing from the side of the road and explosions on the horizon. According to British Sky News, the leader of a group of Russian mercenaries has claimed to have captured the city, while Ukrainian soldiers say it is still up for grabs. In the station’s videos, soldiers are seen on board heavy military vehicles and on foot, maneuvering drones in the middle of houses.

In Soledar “the Russians are there, but they don’t control the city”, “the situation is difficult, even very difficult. This is the battle of Verdun in the 21st century”, said Andriy Yermak, head of the cabinet of the President of Ukraine referring to to the Battle of Verdun, remembered for the enormous loss of human life and as the longest battle of the Great War. “The fighting has been going on for several months now, but our fighters have managed to hold their ground,” Yermak said, as reported by the Guardian.
