Uber makes peace with taxi drivers: rides will cost at least 10 euros

A deal “unprecedented in France” will guarantee taxi drivers across all platforms a minimum income per trip. From 1 February 2023, the fare will be €7.65 net for each trip made. For customers, this means that they will have to pay around 10.20 Euros gross for the shortest possible trip, to which must be added the commissions charged by the platform.

“The fare increase will particularly impact journeys of less than 3km. On the other hand, it could have the positive effect of finding an available driver faster and reducing the waiting time by about a minute,” Uber says in a press release. But not everyone sees the glass half-full. Of the seven unions participating in the negotiations, only four expressed their support and signed the agreement; these are the French Driver-Focused Association (AVF), the National Federation of Auto Entrepreneurs and micro-entrepreneurs (Fnae), the French Confederation of Christian Workers (Cfdt), and the National Autonomous Trade Union Union, which alone accounted for 42.8 percent of the vote.

Three other unions (the CFDT-affiliated Union, the Lyon Independent Taxi Drivers Association and Forza Operaia), which together accounted for 32.1 percent of the vote, believe this agreement is too limited and demand a minimum wage per hour or hour. per kilometer, which will make it possible to “ensure real profitability in the industry” and pay the driver’s journey time to reach the customer.

Uber, France’s main chauffeur-driven service with 32,000 active drivers, didn’t rule out that it could meet opponents’ recommendations, but said some might be difficult to implement. Laureline Seyries, general manager of Uber France, pointed out that drivers can use more than one application at the same time, “The number of hours spent on the platform is questionable.

As announced in a joint announcement by the unions who voted in favor of the deal, the new deal will guarantee drivers “an increase of more than 27% compared to the current minimum net income” as long as there are no improvements.
