Ukraine, Macron responds to Putin: I do not rule out sending tanks to Kiev

President Macron responds in kind to the Kremlin’s provocations. Russia threatened the West that the delivery of weapons to Kiev could lead the world to a global catastrophe. French President Emmanuel Macron, however, was not intimidated and declared to rule out sending Leclerc tanks to Ukraine, although he stressed that three conditions must be met, including the fact that this does not lead to an escalation of the conflict. . “I asked the defense minister to work on it, nothing is excluded,” he told a joint news conference with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at the end of a Franco-German cabinet meeting. Macron indicated three conditions for being able to give Kiev French tanks: that this does not lead to an escalation of the conflict, that there are Ukrainian soldiers ready to use them and that this does not affect French defense capabilities. And he explained that the coordination work to decide what to do with the Ukrainian requests to the West will continue “in the coming days and weeks” with the other allies, including Germany.

In recent days, several French military sources have admitted that it is not possible to say how many AMX Leclerc units are available, since the approximately 200 units that are in storage are used as a source of components and spare parts for the approximately 200 units that they are still in service with the French army. Among other things in France, they also point out that when the UK sends the squadron of 14 Challenger 2 tanks and if other Western countries give tanks of different models to Ukraine, the Ukrainians may have serious problems in training the technical maintenance teams, but also supply chain management. Macron also noted that France has already delivered significant military equipment to Ukraine, including 18 examples of the Caesar self-propelled heavy artillery system, ammunition, anti-aircraft missiles or infantry fighting vehicles. In addition, Paris announced that it will send AMX 10 light reconnaissance tanks to Ukraine
