A man has been taken to hospital after jumping into a frozen lake to save his dog. The North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said he was called at 12.40pm on Sunday to Acton Park in Wrexham.

A spokesman for the fire service told North Wales Live that a dog broke through the ice. He said: “A member of the public went to try to save the dog.”

The fire department sent two teams from Wrexham, but the 56-year-old man and dog were already out of the water when they arrived. Firefighters provided first aid at the scene and the service boat drive to Deeside was cancelled.

An ambulance was also sent to the park. A spokesman for the Welsh Ambulance Service said the incident was not reported until after 1pm.

The man’s condition is not believed to be fatal. He was taken by ambulance to Wrexham Melor Hospital for assessment. You can find out about the latest news from Wales here.
