President of the Council of Europe accepts “different positions” –

Charles Michel, President of the European Council, pointed out that there are “different positions” within the European Union (EU) on Ukraine’s request for swift inclusion in the bloc.

“It is a demand that Ukraine has long supported. But there are different views and sensitivities about a reinforcement (bloc) within the EU,” Michel explained to reporters in a video conference. “Ukraine will make a formal request, the European Commission will give its opinion and the Council of Europe will make itself known,” he said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urged the EU to admit the country to the bloc without delay. “Our leadership in the EU with a new special procedure for the lack of integration in Ukraine,” Zelensky said in a video.

Our goal is to be together with all Europeans and above all to be on an equal footing. I’m sure it’s fair. I’m sure it’s possible,” the president added.

In an interview published Sunday, European Commission President Úrsula von der Leyen stated that Ukraine is one of us and that we want it within the bloc, not just within deadlines. AFP
