A Syrian army source said on condition of anonymity that the rescue teams have completed their tasks and counted a total of 18 bodies from the rubble, while rescuing four injured in the building collapse, in which about 35 people lived there.
The official Syrian news agency SANA said the residential building, which housed a total of seven families, was the Sheikh Maqsoud near Aleppocollapsed around 3:00 AM (00:00 GMT) on Sunday.
For his part, he Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported the deaths of 15 people, including a newborn, eight children and five women.
The organisation, based in the UK but with a wide network of partners on the ground, said those killed in the collapse were displaced from the far northwestern Syrian city of Afrin, which was seized in 2018. Kurdish forces by Turkish forces and their allied militias.
Syrian authorities attributed the collapse to “a water leak in the foundation of the building”, located in Sheikh Maqsoud, an area under the control of the Democratic Syrian Forces (SDF), a Kurdish-led alliance backed by UNITED STATES.
