Corruption invades the war in Ukraine and shakes the Kiev government. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced a reorganization within the government following a series of corruption allegations. In his evening speech, Zelensky said: “We make decisions that concern personnel, officials at various levels in ministries and other central government structures, as well as in regions and law enforcement agencies.” And today began a flurry of layoffs. Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine Vyacheslav Shapovalov stepped down.
According to the official note from the ministry, Shapovalov resigned in order not to “create threats to the Armed Forces following the complaints about the purchase of catering services. While the announced allegations are unfounded, the resignation is a dignified act in the traditions of European and democratic politics, demonstrating that Defense interests are superior to any cabinet or presidency.”
And also this morning Kyrylo Tymoshenko, deputy head of the Ukrainian presidential office, announced on the Telegram channel that he had asked Volodymyr Zelensky to relieve him of his post. Letter of resignation also from the Ukrainian Deputy Minister for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine, Ivan Lukerya. The announcement was made by Lukerya on Facebook.
