Five police officers are indicted in the death of 29-year-old African-American Tire Nichols, who died in hospital after beating during an arrest in early January. Memphis authorities released four videos of the agents’ violent intervention, which American TV Nbc News posted on its Youtube channel in a single full video.
Nichols was stopped by Memphis police officers on January 7 for an alleged traffic offense in his car at an intersection about a hundred meters from his home. The African American who was forced out of the car was beaten and then beaten with kicks in the face and repeated punches after he attempted to escape. None of the five police officers, who were African-American like the victim, had stopped the others, and not even their fellow colleagues, who arrived soon after, had set out to stop the beating. Taken to the hospital, Nichols died on January 10 from internal and external injuries, including fractures to his neck and skull.
