Ship sinking leaves 51 dead, mostly children, in Pakistan

Pakistan is often the scene of serious accidents related to wooden boats, a common means of transport for passengers in the country, but the usual excess weight they face and the non-existent basic safety measures increase the risk of accidents.

At least 26 people died, most of them Ladiesafter the boat they were traveling on for a wedding party capsized in the southern province of Punjab in July last year.

The sinking of the ship last Sunday took place during a black week for Pakistan, where traffic accidents and a terrorist attack killed at least 185 people in just three days.

Also last Sunday, a bus crash killed 41 after it plunged into a ravine and caught fire in southern Pakistan, while yesterday at least 93 people were killed and more than 150 injured in a suicide bombing at a mosque in the capital Peshawar from Khyber. Pakhtunkhwa.
