Pain and devastation after two powerful earthquakes in Turkey and Syria

The results are devastating for Syria and Turkey: the number of deaths exceeds 4 thousand, while that of injured more than 18,000 between the two countries, facing the attacks of two powerful earthquakes, are among the most severe for the century in the region, recorded at 04:17 (01:17 GMT) and had a magnitude of 7.8 and 7.5 degrees on the Richter scale, according to the Turkish emergency service Afad, with an epicenter in Pazarcik, in the Turkish province Kahramanmaras.

The auxiliaries, together with the army and of course the international support given to the two countries, are in a race against time to find life among the debris. The number of missing remains uncertain.

In Turkey, the authorities reported more 3,700 buildings have been destroyed or badly damaged, and that the government intends to begin soon the controlled evacuation of those forced to leave the ten provinces most affected by the disaster. Afad reported the deployment of more than 9,700 rescuers.
