“Two years ago, our economy faltered. As I stand here tonight, we’ve created a record 12 million new jobs, creating more jobs in two years than any other president has created in four,” Biden said before the two Houses of Congress.
“Two years ago the covid had closed our shops, closed our schools and robbed us of so much. Today, the covid no longer controls our lives,” he added.
Biden began his speech by acknowledging the leaders of the Democratic and Republican parties in Congress.
Before starting his speech, he gave several salutes and had a special mention for Speaker of the House of Representatives, Republican Kevin McCarthy, who took office after the Republicans won a majority in that chamber in last November’s election.
And he also devoted a few words to McCarthy’s predecessor, Nancy Pelosi, the “best” president Biden says this House has had.
