Princess Amalia hopes that the situation with the threats she faces will soon change. “I’m going to be completely honest, I’m still going through a very difficult time,” she said on the last day of her visit to the Caribbean part of the Kingdom of Sint Maarten.
Amalia thinks and hopes that her condition is not permanent. “I miss normal life, student life. I miss walking the streets and being able to go to the market.” The princess was happy to have regained a piece of her freedom during her journey with her parents, King Willem-Alexander and Queen Máxima. “I had a great time.”
Last year, it was learned that the 19-year-old princess could not live in Amsterdam, where she studied, due to threats. He can only go to college and still lives with his family. The government information service, police and prosecutor’s office are not giving any information about Amalia’s safety.
After two weeks of talking, meeting and dancing, the Princess of Orange and her family’s journey came to an end. They visited the Caribbean part of the kingdom to introduce Amalia to the islands and prepare for the kingdom that awaited her.
“I envy my family”
King Willem-Alexander was not concerned for his daughter’s safety during his visit. “I am not a security expert myself. So if I were to be worried, I would be worrying about something I had no experience with. So I’ll leave that up to anyone who says it’s safe to walk around.” “When I’m walking around here, I don’t think about it at all.”
The king also expresses his pride towards Amalia. “I smile proudly when I see my daughter. This was a great part of a six island visit.
When asked if she really enjoyed it, the princess’ answer was clear. “I can assure you, I really had a lot of fun and am so grateful,” Amalia says. She said she was jealous of her family, who already knew many people in the Caribbean part of the kingdom. “There will be many more visits before I get around as smoothly as I did here.”
