According to several American news sources, former US Vice President Mike Pence has been summoned to court as part of the court investigation against former President Donald Trump.
ABC News and The New York Times, among others, rely on sources relevant to the investigation. However, special prosecutor Jack Smith, who oversaw the Trump investigation, did not respond, and neither did Pence. Investigations focus, among other things, on Trump’s actions during the attack on the Capitol and his handling of classified government documents after his presidency.
According to the New York Times, the attorney general’s office negotiated with Pence’s legal team for months for voluntary testimony, but nothing came of it. This is why Trump is said to have been summoned to court to provide more information on how he acted after it was announced that he lost the presidential election.
Trump thought that Pence, who will confirm the January 6 election results, should not recognize Biden’s victory. Pence refused, saying it was illegal.
The subpoena is separate from Pence’s found documents.
The subpoena is independent of the classified documents found in Pence’s house. At the end of January, the documents were found at the home of the former US Vice President. According to Pence’s attorney, the finding was made by a lawyer hired by Pence to search several boxes of documents for potentially classified items. The former Vice President’s attorney is said to be retaining due to the recent discovery of classified documents belonging to former President Trump and President Biden.
