Died after diving into frozen lake: investigation opened

A 48-year-old Italian citizen residing in the Canton of Geneva (Switzerland) died on Sunday evening at the University Hospital of Lausanne, where he was taken to as a result of a diving accident.

At around 3 pm on Saturday afternoon, the man lost consciousness of unknown causes during a dive into the frozen Lake Taney, about 1,400 meters above sea level in the municipality, according to a statement released today by the Valais Canton police. of Vouvry. It was a trip organized by an ice diving club: thanks to the quick intervention of other participants, it was possible to get him out of the lake. His condition immediately appeared critical.

After the first intervention at the scene, he was transferred to the university hospital in Lausanne by helicopter. Here his death was declared the next day. The Swiss judiciary has launched an investigation into the incident.
