The US to American citizens: “Leave Russia, you risk arrest.” What happens

The United States has urged its citizens to leave Russia immediately as they risk arbitrary arrest or harassment by Russian law enforcement agencies. “American citizens residing in or traveling to Russia must leave immediately,” the US embassy in Moscow said in a statement. It is still necessary “to behave with extreme caution due to the risk of wrongful arrest”. The invitation, in general, is for “Do not travel to Russia”.

The United States has repeatedly warned its citizens to leave the country. The last public warning was in September, after President Vladimir Putin ordered a partial mobilization. “Russian security services arrested US citizens on trumped-up charges, singled out US citizens in Russia for detention and harassment, denied them fair and transparent treatment, and sentenced them in secret trials or without presenting credible evidence,” the embassy said.

“It is not the first time that we have heard US appeals to their compatriots to leave Russia. There is nothing new in the latter”, declared Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, commenting to the press on the appeal to American citizens, sent by the American embassy in Moscow, to leave the country “immediately”.
