A 23-year-old man died after falling from a peak in Snowdonia National Park, an inquiry said. Jack Carne, from Barnsley in South Yorkshire, died after falling from a 200m hill, breaking his arm.

The young construction worker suffered multiple injuries following the Saturday, February 4th incident at Y Gribin in Glyderau, reports NorthWalesLive. Friends of his, who were rescued by the Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Group, raised the alarm.

Rescue teams found Mr. Karn, but his body was not recovered until the next day due to bad weather, according to the hearing. You can get more local and other news straight to your inbox by signing up for our newsletters here.

John Gittins, Chief Coroner for East and Central North Wales, said Carne suffered “multiple injuries”. He was with two friends at the time of the fall as they hiked to the top of Llyn Ogwen’s Glyder Fawr.

Friends paid tribute to Karn, describing him as a “true gentleman” and “the nicest guy you’ll ever meet”, after a fundraiser was launched in his memory. The fundraiser, which you can find here, will be used to support his family. A full investigation will take place later this year.

His grandmother also thanked first responders on social media, saying: “Many thanks to everyone who risked their own lives to help my grandson and his friends, we are all heartbroken. You will always be in my heart and thoughts, Jack, my beautiful grandson.”
