Two dramatic police chases took place in Merthyr Tydfil on Sunday night. In one case, a police dog tracked a suspect after an accident, and in another, saw a stinger being used to deflate the car’s tires.

A spokesman for South Wales Police said: “Shortly after 10.30pm yesterday, it was reported that a vehicle was traveling at high speed in the Swansea Road area of ​​Merthyr Tydfil. A chase ensued and a stinger was triggered, bringing the vehicle to a halt in the Pontmorlay area. A 19-year-old man from Swansea Road has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and is being questioned at Merthyr Tydfil Police Station. Two other men arrested at the same time were released without further action.”

During the second chase, the driver allegedly “ran off the road”, then got back onto the road and crashed. A force spokesman said: “Following an initial report shortly before 12.45pm that a vehicle had failed to stop in Merthyr Tydfil town centre, officers from the road police unit gave chase. After a limited chase, the vehicle collided with street furniture and the driver fled.

Police dog Frankie was used and the suspect was arrested “shortly afterwards”. An 18-year-old Mountain Hare resident was charged with non-stopping, uninsured driving and dangerous driving in connection with a second incident, which was unrelated to the first.
