One mother said she hardly sleeps and is “afraid” for her children’s health due to the mold and damp that affect her home. Beth Parry, from Anglesey, said her concerns were particularly heightened following recent coverage of the death of two-year-old Awaab Ishaq from a respiratory problem caused by exposure to mould. The child lived with the Rochdale Boroughwide Housing Association and died at Oldham Royal Infirmary on 21 December 2020.

The 28-year-old dental nurse and support worker says she has raised concerns about her home in Craig Y Don with Anglesey County Council, who have told North Wales Live there is an ongoing investigation.

Beth says her nine-year-old daughter and six-year-old son are both affected by the mold, claiming it has affected their breasts, made them cough and has seen them visit doctors regularly. She claims to have a letter from her doctor saying he is “shocked” by her living conditions.

Beth Parry Claims Her Daughter’s Room Has Black Mold

“When we moved in five years ago, the garden was full of glass, it took them four years to fix it so my children could play in it. I work 56 hours a week, my partner Craig works full time. We pay full time rental fee £110 per week We have never missed a payment.

“I feel like they treat us like we don’t deserve a safe environment to live in, we should just shut up and accept it. I’m ashamed to say this, but I have to do something for my children. I hardly dare sleep at night in case something happens to them, hearing about that little boy in Rochdale made me fear for my children.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Anglesey County Council said: “We can confirm that we have received a formal complaint from one of our tenants about mold in the property.

“The complaint is being investigated in accordance with our corporate complaints procedure, therefore it would be inappropriate to comment further until this process is completed.”
