Step back on supplies to Ukraine. The Netherlands and Denmark have in fact decided that they will not deliver Leopard 2 tanks to Kiev. This was revealed by Welt, who speaks of cracks in the coalition for supplying tanks to the government led by Volodymyr Zelensky. The Netherlands had already considered the delivery of 18 Leopard 2s leased from Germany, part of the German-Dutch battalion. However, according to the Ministry of Defense in The Hague, these tanks are not available for Ukraine. “The decision was taken in close consultation between the Netherlands and Germany,” explained a spokesman. According to Welt, Danish government sources said the country would not hand over any of its 44 modern Leopard 2 A7 tanks. And there are indications that even Finland may decide not to supply Ukraine with modern armored vehicles.
Welt says that the Netherlands and Denmark will bear part of the cost of repairing 100 Leopard 1 tanks from German industry stockpiles. “A look at the numbers shows that Berlin cannot come close to forging an alliance on the scale originally envisaged” to supply Ukraine with tanks against Russian aggression.
The situation is different with Norway, which will supply Ukraine with eight Leopard 2 tanks, as well as ammunition, spare parts and up to four support vehicles. This was announced by the Oslo government, announcing the details of its contribution to strengthening the Kiev army. Norway’s Defense Ministry, however, did not specify when the tanks would be delivered, but Minister Bjorn Arild Gram, currently in Brussels for a Ramstein-style meeting, told Norwegian media it was imminent.
