500 thousand Ukrainians fled the occupation –

Thousands of Ukrainians continue to flee to their neighbors to the south and west, and Poland has been the main recipient of more than 500,000 refugees counted by the United Nations since the Russian invasion that began last Thursday.

“More than 500,000 refugees have fled Ukraine to neighboring countries,” said Filippo Grandi, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, 132,000 more than the previous figure. More than half of these refugees came to Poland. In the city of Przemysl, on the border with Ukraine, trains chartered by the Polish government depart from Kiev, full of people, mostly women and children.

A Polish soldier explains that the flow of people is incessant. Across the country we have care centers for these refugees, both local authorities and individuals, in a huge wave of solidarity. The Polish railway network will carry refugees free of charge, most of whom have relatives or friends in Poland. The German train company Deutsche Bahn will allow free travel from Poland to any destination in the country from Sunday. EFE
