Police said the remains of Constance Marten and Mark Gordon’s two-month-old baby were found during the search. Metropolitan Police Detective Superintendent Lewis Basford confirmed the news late on Wednesday.
Search teams used “all resources” at their disposal in a desperate search for Constance Marten and Mark Gordon’s two-month-old baby, the Palestinian Authority said. Hundreds of police and search and rescue specialists scoured 90 square miles of the Sussex countryside in an attempt to find the baby, who has not received medical attention since she was born in a car in Bolton on January 5.
Marten, 35, who comes from an aristocratic family with royal connections, first disappeared with her boyfriend Mr. Gordon, 48, when the car was found abandoned and burned near the edge of the M61 on 5 January.
From there, they traveled across the country in taxis, avoiding the police, paying everything in cash, covering their faces with security cameras and changing locations frequently, often after dark.
They were finally arrested in Brighton on Monday, minutes after a member of the public alerted police but their son was not with them. The Sun reported that they used a Brighton food bank last Wednesday but did not order the baby items that were available and did not take the child with them.
They also failed to purchase children’s products from the store shortly before their arrest. CCTV footage taken shortly before it was captured shows Gordon, who served 20 years in a US prison for rape and assault, limping and using a large cane to walk.
Investigators requested an additional 36 hours to question the couple, who are being held on suspicion of child neglect and grossly negligent homicide.
The Weather Service is also predicting snow with freezing temperatures.
