The FBI arrested a man Monday after an explosive device was found in a suitcase at a small Pennsylvania airport. The suitcase was supposed to be on a plane to Florida.
The explosives were found in a suitcase at Lehigh Valley International Airport. Two suppositories hidden in plastic with dust and parchment paper. According to the FBI, flash powder and black powder are also used in fireworks. “Dusts can explode due to heat and friction, posing a hazard to aircraft and passengers,” the FBI said in a statement.
After the item was found, the 40-year-old man, the owner of the suitcase, was called to the police. He fled and was arrested at his home soon after.
Part of the airport was temporarily closed on Monday due to the potential explosion hazard. It is not yet clear what the suspect’s intentions were.
