War in Ukraine, Blinken threatens China: retaliation if they help Putin

The war in Ukraine continues to divide Washington and Beijing. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken threatens Beijing with retaliation if it decides to provide military assistance to the Kremlin – China’s military assistance to the Russian Federation would have consequences, including sanctions. US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said this during a press conference in New Delhi – The United States told China that Beijing’s military assistance to Moscow would be a serious problem for bilateral relations».

Blinken also made two appeals to Russian authorities represented by Foreign Minister Sergej Lavrov. “Put an end to this war of aggression, engage in meaningful diplomacy that can produce a just and lasting peace – this is the message addressed by Antony Blinken to Sergey Lavrov, as reported by the Secretary of State himself during his conversation with the Russian Minister on the sidelines of G20 foreign ministers meeting in New Delhi – President Putin has shown no interest in speaking, saying there is nothing to discuss unless and until Ukraine agrees and, I quote his words, “the new territorial reality”.

“I asked Russia to reverse the irresponsible decision and re-enforce the New Start, which imposes verifiable limits on the nuclear arsenals of the United States and Russia.” This was said by Antony Blinken referring to the meeting he had with Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of the G20 foreign ministers’ meeting. “The reciprocal application is in the interest of both our countries and it is also what the world’s people expect from us as nuclear powers”, added the US Secretary of State during the press conference in New Delhi. To the Russian chancellor, Blinken reiterated that Washington is willing to dialogue with Moscow on issues of strategic control of nuclear weapons “regardless of what is happening in the world and in our relations”, recalling how the US and later the Soviet Union negotiated on this during the Cold War.
