Argentina’s famous football player, Lionel Messi, received a sad news from his hometown of Rosario. In the early hours of the morning, gunmen opened fire on a supermarket owned by his father-in-law. They also left the message “Messi is waiting for you” on a piece of cardboard for the football player.
According to police, the men fired at least ten times from a motorcycle in the supermarket. No one was injured in the attack. It is unclear why the gunmen targeted Messi or his mother-in-law.
In response to the attack, Rosario Mayor Javkin reacted sharply to state and state officials. He accuses politicians of negligence in fighting drug-related crime in his city. “We’ve been talking about these kinds of incidents for years, and they all have one thing in common: no blame, no action, no confrontation.”
The mayor was also mentioned in the message left by the gunmen. “Javkin is also a drug dealer, so he won’t protect you,” the note sent to the player said.
Messi has yet to comment on the incident. He plays for French club Paris Saint-Germain and therefore spends most of his time in Paris.
